There has appeared to be some uncertainty amongst manufacturers and exporters of IT servers and storage units to which extent the associated power supplies are subject to the mandatory registration by BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) for marketing in India, i.e. under the Order 2012 of 7 September 2012 – ‘Requirements for Compulsory Registration’
The standard, which is scheduled to be published in October, is denoted IEC 63000 Ed.1.0 ‘Technical documentation for the assessment of electrical and electronic products with respect to the restriction of hazardous substances’. It is identical to the European standard EN 50581:2012.
The EU Commission has recently published two amendments to the European RoHS Directive (for Restriction of Hazardous Substances) which approve the following new exemptions to the Directive’s Article 4.
APEC, (the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation) which counts 21 countries/economies, incl. Australia, China, Russia and USA, has currently a pilot project in process concerning testing and attesting the energy efficiency of personal computers according to the international standard IEC 62623 Desktop and notebook computers-Measurement of energy consumption.
