Nemko performs unique test programs for devices outside the norm of regulatory or product testing. Some of these devices are tailored around the transportation of products and goods and products utilized on highways worldwide. Here are a few examples of what Nemko can offer in these areas:
ISTA Testing
National Highway Traffic Safety
A breath alcohol ignition interlock device (also referred to as a BAIID, BIID, IID, alcohol interlock device, or Adult Safety Interlock) is a mechanism similar to a breathalyzer installed in a vehicle’s dashboard to prohibit drunk driving. Nemko can help breath alcohol ignition interlock device manufacturers meet standards for their products to comply with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration requirements as published in Federal Register/Vol.78 No. 89 dated Wednesday, May 8, 2013; Notices NHTSA Docket No. 2013-0058, and National Research Council Canada Technical Standard for Alcohol Interlocks in Canada, Cenelec EN 50436-1 and -2. This is the only testing laboratory that can perform the required testing and evaluate product performance at a single testing location.
Battery Testing
Regulations in the last decade have made great strides in testing criteria for battery cells and battery systems to improve safety and reliability: Operation and non-operational transportation. For example, nearly all Lithium batteries must pass section 38.3 of the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous goods regulation. Generally, the battery cells or systems are exposed to vibration, thermal / humidity cycles, altitude testing, and impact before/after or simultaneously during the environmental stresses they undergo charge/discharge cycles. Nemko can handle most preliminary battery testing requirements for small and medium-sized (typically < 5lb total weight) battery cells. We can do this cost-effectively and prepare you for complete compliance testing. Nemko can also provide preliminary battery testing for safe transportation and reliability; read more about our product testing and certification.
ISTA Testing
- Making sure your product gets delivered to your customer unharmed is a concern to all manufacturers who ship their products. The International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) is an organization that focuses on specific concerns of transport packaging. The ISTA test protocols consider Handling Drop and Impact, Transportation Vibration, Stacking Load, and Atmospheric Conditions. The ISTA Procedures and Projects that Nemko can apply are covered in seven series.1 Series: Non-simulation integrity performance tests: 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 1E, 1G & 1H.
- 2 Series: Partial Simulation Performance Tests: 2A, 2B & 2C.
- 3 Series: General Simulation Performance Tests: 3A, 3B, 3E, 3F, 3H & 3K.
- 4 Series: Enhanced Simulation Performance Tests: 4AB.
- 5 Series: Focus Simulation Guides: Not currently active.
- 6 Series: Member Performance Tests: 6-FEDEX-A, 6-FEDEX-B & 6-SAMSCLUB.
- 7 Series: Development Tests: 7D & 7E.
