World Standards Day
World Standards Day is a celebration of the foundation of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which held its first meeting in London on October 14, 1946.
The aim of World Standards Day is both to raise awareness among regulators, industry and consumers about the importance of standardisation to the global economy, and to pay tribute to the work of thousands of experts within standards development organisations who collaborate to develop voluntary standards which facilitate trade and technological advances.
Standards are published documents where specifications and procedures are defined to ensure the reliability of processes, products, materials or services which we all use in our everyday lives. Standards address a wide range of issues, and they help to ensure the functionality and capability of products, they support consumer safety, public health, environmental care, and more.
Why Are They Important?
We may not be aware of it, but we use standards in all aspects of our daily lives: media, food, transport, healthcare, communications, energy and so on.
Standards contain expert knowledge and best practices. They are critical to ensuring quality and performance of products and services. They facilitate interoperability of different technologies and assist users in comparing and choosing the best solutions available.
In Nemko we are proud of the critical work we do for manufacturers and end-users worldwide, in our objective to promote safety in the sale and use of electro-technical equipment through the application of standards.
Happy World Standards Day 2017!
