UAE and Oman become members of the IEC

IEC membership is growing as countries continue to recognize the benefits of standardization. The UAE (United Arab Emirates) and Oman have now become full members, making them the 80th and 81st Members of the IEC (more).

The new NC (National Committee) of the UAE, is held by ESMA (Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology). The country produces about 70 billion kWh of electricity annually, and presently has a population of 7.5 mill (compared to 5.6 mill in 2006!).

The DGSM (Directorate General of Specifications and Measurements) holds the secretariat of the Omani NC.  Oman produces about 14 billion kWh of electricity annually, and has a population of 3.5 mill.
