Define your role within Nemko.
I am working as a manager of the MED group (MED, MEAS scope) of Nemko Korea. I’m in charge of the safety testing of medical devices, in vitro diagnostic medical devices, and measuring equipment.

How did you choose this career path?
It happened by chance; an acquaintance introduced me to testing houses that are related to testing and certification. I started at Nemko, and I’ve been so interested in safety testing affairs.

What do you enjoy most about your job at Nemko?
When I go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment, I see many medical devices tested and certified by Nemko. That makes me proud of my position, to know we are making a difference.

Are there any challenges that you’ve faced during your career that have taught you important lessons?
I feel that the product testing affairs should maintain objectivity and independence well and that cooperation between inter-team members and inter-departments is more important than anything else.

What do you think the industry will look like in 20 years?
It is expected that the products in which IT (Information and Communication Technology), BT (Bio-Technology), and NT (Nano Technology) technologies are combined more and more complex and will increase rapidly. In the case of medical devices, it is expected that the robot industry will develop significantly due to the development of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology, replacing more than half of the work done by doctors and nurses.

What do you find most rewarding about your role?
It is rewarding to make improvements to the team. By helping team members work well together to meet the customers, and actively support team members to achieve individual improvement in personal competency.

• Robots – Among the various types of robots as medical devices, robots related to surgical assistance and rehabilitation are continuously increasing.
• Digital Therapeutics (DTx) – This is a kind of Software as medical devices (SaMD) and is growing very rapidly.
• Electroceuticals – Medical devices as hardware are growing continuously. It is reported that the treatment is effective for dementia patients and depressed patients.
• Cyber security of medical devices – Cyber security is critical not only for IoT products but also for medical devices and is closely related to software evaluation of medical devices. In Vitro Diagnostic Medical Devices – Self-testing IVD products are growing continuously.

When not working, how do you spend your spare time?
When not working I like to go out to eat with my family or take a walk in the parks or by the lakes near my house.
