Danny Lu
Marketing Manager
Define your role within Nemko.
One of my roles is key account management, where I work with major accounts and try to take care of the project management and tracking. My other role is marketing, which is working with Prashant and Andrew to ensure Nemko Taiwan remains a top competitor in the marketplace.
How did you choose this career path?
Because this is such a critical industry for Taiwan, TIC is a significant customer segment. In Taiwan, Original Design Manufacturers (ODM) in Taiwan for notebooks, PCs, servers, and networking are very common. So, the TIC market in Nemko Taiwan is dealing majorly with these key accounts in the TIC market, providing services for electrical safety, energy efficiency, approvals, and other new services, so to me, it is an excellent industry to be in that is working to make things safe for everyone, as well as being so important to Taiwan.
What do you enjoy most about your job at Nemko?
I enjoy working in the TIC market because it is a major driving force in Taiwan. In terms of product and development, there is always market demand. It's also exciting to work with all the international key brand customers because we get to know what their new developments are, about three to five years in advance. So, you can work with these big global customers, and that's what's most exciting.
Are there any challenges that you’ve faced during your career that have taught you important lessons?
Time to market is always challenging because of the supply chain right now. So, when we do certification, that’s at the end of product development, and we have to deliver on the certification. The most challenging is to deliver on time in a very short period when we are short on resources.
What do you think the industry will look like in 20 years?
I think environmental sustainability is most important right now, and we have to deal with it globally and internationally on how to get cost reduction of unnecessary resources and environmental waste. In 10-20 years, environmental sustainability will be most crucial. CSR/ESG? will be a driving force in the following five to ten years. Cyber security will also be a major driving force since we are all connected to the internet. We have fast development with 4G, 5G, and 6G, so IoT devices will be connecting wirelessly. Other regulations like in the EU, the US, and other regions will have to adopt cyber security as a regulation.
What do you find most rewarding about your role?
As key account management, customer retention and dealing with global international accounts is a crucial role that requires prompt and clear communication. In managing these projects and serving the customer, Nemko employees must also communicate well to reduce the risk of delays.
What are some market trends you’re keeping an eye on?
Right now, the most challenging market trend is facing costs. All the raw materials are going up because of inflation right now. The war in Ukraine has also driven up costs for manufacturers and suppliers. We have a shortage of critical components like semiconductors. So, the delivery schedule is very tight, and the market is very demanding. covid 19also had a big impact on manufacturing, forcing us to work closely and respond smartly and quickly.
When not working, how do you spend your spare time?
In my free time, I do some hiking and get some mental and physical relaxation. I don’t go to the night market right now because of covid but go to 7/11 for coffee breaks. I visit my son’s relatives who live on the countryside. I go with my wife to the lake or the beach and relax for the weekend. I keep up with business news and trends around the world.
