Qatar Updates Requirements for Short-Range Radio Devices: What You Need to Know
Written by: Tom Tidwell
In order to address the growing technological developments found around the world, the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) of the State of Qatar has issued an update to the existing class license requirements for short-range radio devices (SRDs) which went into effect in April of 202
This mandatory directive affects all short-range radio product manufacturers and importers in Qatar, specifying the harmonized standards that must be used for bringing these devices to market.
This update was designed to stay up to date on the latest technological advancements in the radio-communication equipment industry, which continues to grow and change at an increasing pace. The CRA is tasked with ensuring that technology and communications services are provided reliably across Qatar, making it critical to ensure enough radio spectrum for use with the increased number of connected devices in the twenty-first century.
This update includes:
● Annexure (2) addresses the addition of new applications and frequency bands for short-range radio devices
● Updated rules
● Updated international standards
● Updated technical specifications for devices intended to be imported into the country
● Rules regarding the authorized maximum allowed output power
Manufacturers or importers who fail to observe this update risk operating in violation of the technical requirements, as well as the opportunity to operate with a higher output power which results in optimum performance of the product.
Several of the world’s leading manufacturers partner with Nemko to test and certify their radio communication devices, ensuring they are adhering to the most recent industry standards at all times.
