In last year’s September-issue of this newsletter it was informed about the scope of the
official Notification (recognition) of Nemko by the Saudi authorities for certification of
imported products being expanded to include 15 new Saudi Technical Regulations for
products imported from countries/regions in Asia and Australia. Now, the scope of this Notification has been expanded to cover also products from Europe.
Thereby, Nemko can now certify most SABER Regulated Products being exported to Saudi Arabia within the various product/material sectors (including chemical, textile, construction/building, mechanical as well as electrical).
Saber is basically a digital platform where the mandatory product certificates can be registered for the use by the Saudi customs “for efficient tracking of products and the technical processes that have taken place in the supply chain for the purpose of increasing the percentage of safe products”.
In order to permit consumer goods, whether imported or locally manufactured, to enter the Saudi market, Saber allows importers and local manufacturers to register the necessary Certificates of Conformity (CoC) and to issue Shipment Certificates of Conformity (SCoC) online. The aim of Saber is also to “protect commercial enterprises from cases of fraud and tampering with technical documents and ensures that the products are free from defects that might affect the health and safety of the consumers or their environment”.
