New version of Chinese technical standards

      Back

    China CQC

The China Quality Certification Centre (CQC) has recently issued two Notifications about new versions of certification rules and of standards for household- and similar electrical appliances.
The products concerned include external power adapters, chargers and built-in switching power supplies and also battery chargers and household appliances such as dishwashers and tumble driers.
The two Notifications can be seen here and here .

Amongst the new version of the technical standards are the following two generic standards for respectively safety and EMC:

    • GB/T 4706.1-2024 "Safety of Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Part 1: General Requirements"
(It is based on the international IEC 60335-1:2016 and replaces the former version GB 4706.1-2005).
    • GB 4343.1-2024 "Electromagnetic Compatibility - Requirements for Household Appliances, Electric Tools and Similar Apparatus - Part 1: Emission". (It is based on the international CISPR 14-1:2020 and replaces the former version GB 4343.1-2018).

These new versions of the standards were released by the Chinese authority SAMR on their standard platform already in July this year. There is currently a transition period up to mid-2026 (1 June and 1 Aug 2026) depending on product categories. From then on, CQC will only issue certificates based on the new standard versions.
In the meantime, the changes will apply only to their voluntary certification.
