Telecommunication- and broadcasting equipment are amongst the many types of products that require certification in Mexico before placed on the market and sold. It includes equipment that is data transmitters (digital, analogical, LAN, or WAN systems) and those intended to be connected to the Public Telecom Network (PTN) and designed to process, receive, transmit, or convert signals.
Mexico’s Federal Institute of Telecommunications (IFT) is introducing a new seal for labelling of approved telecommunication and broadcasting-type equipment.
The announcement of the details was made in the Federal Official Gazette (Diario Oficial de la Federación) already at the end of last year and then given an intro phase of 180 days before becoming effective.
It is stated that importers and manufacturers must include the IFT Seal in the marking or labelling of telecom and broadcasting equipment to be marketed in Mexico.
The IFT Seal must be highly visible and legible, without requiring magnification, in black or negative black ink.
Approved products must include the prefix “IFT” and the certificate number in addition to the IFT Seal.
The IFT Seal can only be used during the validity dates of the certification for approved products.
The use of the IFT Seal is not mandatory for previously approved products (including those that had already begun the approval process before the entry into force date) and will continue to be covered under the guidelines of their respective current certification.
The guidelines may be seen in full at this website: FOG - Federal Official Gazette (dof.gob.mx)
The estimated effective date of the labelling regulation is now projected to be early September this year.
