Nemko Expands Certification Capabilities for Hazardous Locations
Written by: Jeff Lenk
We are pleased to announce that Nemko has extended its OSHA Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) recognition to include the certification of equipment intended for use in potentially hazardous (classified) locations. Anchored by our center of excellence for explosive atmosphere safety test lab in Round Rock (Austin), Texas, we offer guidance, testing and certification to UL 60079-x(x=0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 11, 15, 18, 25, 28, 31), NFPA 496, UL 913, UL 121201, TIA 4950, UL 1203, UL 674 and UL 698A.
Key Points:
- Expanded Certification Scope: As of July 29, 2024, Nemko can certify equipment against an expanded scope of hazardous location testing standards published in the US Federal Register. You can view Nemko’s full OSHA NRTL recognition on OSHA’s website. Recognition means that the organization is authorized to perform independent safety testing and certification for specific products and this expansion improves Nemko’s service offering for equipment used in potentially explosive atmospheres. Each NRTL’s recognition includes the types of products it can test, specified by relevant test standards and the recognized locations with the technical capability to carry out testing and certification for these standards.
- Dual Market Certification: In addition to our OSHA NRTL recognition, Nemko is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) and recognized by Canadian Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs). This allows us to certify equipment for both the US and Canadian markets seamlessly.
- European Union Certification: Nemko is also a Notified Body under the EU ATEX directive(NEMKO 0470), ensuring a seamless certification process for key markets in the European Union.
- International IECEx scheme: As an ExTL (Ex Testing Laboratory) Nemko can test equipment intended for use in explosive atmospheres. The IECEx scheme has more than 35 member countries.
- Global Market Access: With our extensive Global Market Access program and these enhanced certification capabilities, Nemko is positioned as a key partner to help you achieve your market access goals.
We are excited about these advancements and look forward to supporting your certification needs across multiple regions.
