As announced briefly in the last issue of this newsletter, Nemko Group AS has acquired the majority of the shares in SINTEF Norlab AS, which is the largest Norwegian owned laboratory group within environmental monitoring, analytical chemistry, microbiology and veterinary medicine. The company changes name to Nemko Norlab, but otherwise continues its normal business operations.
The company currently has 120 employees at 12 different locations in Norway and has a strong market position in its special fields and has shown stable results in a highly competitive market. SINTEF Norlab’s Mr. Eigil Dåbakk will continue as CEO of Nemko Norlab and be a part of Nemko’s management team. Combining the service portfolios of SINTEF Norlab and Nemko, provides significant growth opportunities in both Norway and abroad.
The combination will provide the present 1600 customers of SINTEF Norlab an opportunity for their business to expand beyond Norwegian borders through Nemko’s international customer base. The objective is to offer one-stop-shop services to current and future customers internationally.
Nemko has seen an increasing customer demand for chemical and materials testing as driven by increased regulations related to the ‘green transition’. Integrating SINTEF Norlab’s skillset within chemistry testing with Nemko’s present competencies, means that customers’ future needs can be met in a competent and cost-efficient manner.
Nemko will be able to further develop its Management System Certification services into new fields, as well as to complement its services within the fields of Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) as well as testing and certification of toys and batteries. Also, the acquisition provides a starting point for joint initiatives towards the Norwegian mainland industry and the strong aquaculture business.
