Written by: Nemko
Korea's first international testing laboratory recognized for cyber security
According to a news article in ‘ETNEWS’ (the daily newspaper for information technology in South Korea), the first international laboratory in Korea for cyber security testing of consumer products within the international IECEE/CB scheme, is the laboratory of Nemko Korea at Yongin, Gyeonggi-do outside Seoul.
Thereby, the path has been opened for acceptance of their cyber security test reports internationally, including in Europe, the USA, and China.
In Europe, cyber security of consumer IoT products, will from August 2025 be an added requirement for the mandatory CE-marking and associated compliance documentation.
Most electronic products with IoT functions, such as TVs, home appliances, air purifiers, digital door locks, etc, are subject to this requirement.
Countries in other parts of the world have either already or are in the process of implementing equivalent requirements.
Like for other operations within the IECEE/CB Scheme, as concerning electrical safety of the electrical and electronic products, Nemko Korea’s test reports for cyber security are used as a basis for international certification by Nemko Norway as the responsible IECEE-NCB.
Entered a unique industry-academic cooperation
On 4 September, Nemko Korea signed an industry-academic cooperation agreement with Pyeongchon High School of Science & Technology. On this occasion, together with the high school officials, about 30 of their students visited and participated in a program that included a tour of the various laboratories.
Through this industry-academia cooperation, Nemko Korea intends to utilize its information technology infrastructure to support education at schools and provide opportunities for field training and employment.
The General Manager of Nemko Korea, Mr. Seung-in Yang emphasizes that the importance of this is not only to secure future customized talents but also to contribute to strengthening the connection between the talent development and technical education system necessary for national industrial development.
