In August this year, Argentina’s Ministry of Economy issued a Resolution 237/2024 which introduces a comprehensive update to the country’s Conformity Evaluation Framework. The given purpose is simplification and streamlining of the certification processes, while ensuring product safety and compliance with national standards by enhanced market surveillance.
The resolution will be implemented from 28 March 2025 by Argentina’s National Directorate of Technical Regulations (DNRT).
The changes provided by the Resolution are apparently designed to safeguard that marketed products comply with Argentina’s technical standards and regulatory requirements by focusing on post-market controls and use of new conformity marking with a QR code.
Changes & Impacts:
- Expanded Acceptance of Foreign Certifications and Tests: The new resolution allows for broader recognition of foreign certifications and tests conducted by entities having agreement with counterparts in Argentina. Amongst such entities is Nemko who has for many years had agreement with the Argentine central certification body IRAM.
- Shift in Compliance Responsibility: The responsibility for verifying compliance with technical regulations is shifting from customs to the DNRT. This means that products will no longer be checked for compliance at the border but will instead undergo post-market surveillance, providing a smoother import process.
- Introduction of New Conformity Marking: Resolution 237/2024 introduces a new conformity marking that includes a QR code (see example shown below). This QR code will link to the product’s Declaration of Conformity (DoC) and certification details (if applicable). The DoC must be available in Spanish and signed by the local manufacturer or importer.
